Tony Vance: A Dad And A Pastor

A Pastor and a Dad have many of the same traits.  Your Dad wants to see you grow into the person you want to be.  He wants your dreams to come true.  Your Dad wants you to choose the vocation where you are the happiest.  He enjoys seeing you be successful in everything you do.  Your growth reflects his life (or not).  It doesn’t matter where you are or who you marry; he will love you.  He will look on your success as part of his.  You make his life complete.

You will understand his feelings when you become a parent.

Your pastor wants you to grow in the kingdom of God.  Your pastor wants to enhance your vocation and your dreams so you can deal with the world’s problems.  Your pastor joys in your family’s growth both physically and spiritually.  He oftentimes feels responsible for your success and growth.  You make his calling worthwhile.

Your pastor wasn’t always a pastor.  You will only know a pastor’s heart if God calls you to be a pastor….
…or the son of a pastor.

Homeschool

Q: How does a homeschooling family change a light bulb?
A: First, mom checks three books on electricity out of the library, then the kids make models of light bulbs, read a biography of Thomas Edison and do a skit based on his life.
Then, everyone studies the history of lighting methods, wrapping up with dipping their own candles.
Next, everyone takes a trip to the store where they compare types of light bulbs as well as prices and figure out how much change they'll get if they buy two bulbs for $1.99 and pay with a five dollar bill.
On the way home, a discussion develops over the history of money and also Abraham Lincoln, as his picture is on the five dollar bill.
Finally, after building a homemade ladder out of branches dragged from the woods, the light bulb is installed.
And there is light.

"I found my phone!!!"

You know....God is so good! To think that He would help a young man find his phone in this 50-acre woods is just amazing!

Anthony & his friend, Christopher, had a great time hiking thru the hills for almost an hour. Back here at the house Christopher later realized he had lost his dad's phone! So back thru the hills they went - for another 40 minutes - calling his phone every little bit. As they were starting back, I called it from here one more time.....& Christopher answered! He was so thankful that he didn't have to worry about life insurance!

Plus he had 37 missed calls!

Thank You Lord!

Speck in Eye

Anthony had something in his eye that took some time to remove because it was so small. Later, he was still appreciating how good he felt because that speck was no longer there. Then we both remembered this verse in the Bible:

3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, Let me remove the speck from your eye; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. Matthew 7:2 NKJV
